In 1959 the AZCPA rebranded into AIPAC and in November 1962 Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy's Department of Justice ordered the American Zionist Council to register as a foreign agent under FARA because it was funded by the Jewish Agency for Israel and thereby acting on behalf of Israel; and under JFK's presidential administration; concurrent with RFK's tenure as Attorney General the department of justice repeatedly tried to get the American Zionist council registered as a foreign agent, to their refusal which ended up in a senate hearing. The DOJ gives them 72 hours to register, which was also ignored, and following JFK's assassination two weeks later, under Lyndon B. Johnson, AIPAC, separate from the AZC, is given a tax-exempt status, so now they don't need to share where they get their money from as a tax-exempt organization even from as far back as 1953. The separate AZC is dissolved in 1966.
